It is never too early to engage children in leadership skills training. Youth Services is pleased to provide the following programs for youth aged 12-14. Check out the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts & Recreation Guide for more information.

This summer program is geared towards youth entering grades 8 to 12. Youth will learn what leadership means and participate in practical components to gain leadership skills. Participants will learn how to plan and implement games and crafts for children and other activities for children in a recreational setting. All participants will be required to attend a three-day overnight orientation, weekly training seminars and commit to 8-10 hours weekly for volunteer experience. Youth can graduate through the program's three stages:
- Youth Futures Junior Leadership
- Youth Futures Senior Leadership
- Youth Alumni Leadership

Babysitting Training
This course comes highly recommended and is often expected from potential clients. At the completion of this course you will have the skills and knowledge to confidently provide safe and secure care as a certified babysitter. Please note: participants must be 11 years old or have their birthday during the program and before the exam date.
Babysitter Training Camp
The program is for those who want more than basic skills. Learn games, snacks, story telling, puppets and more. Successful completion is marked by receipt of a Red Cross Babysitter's Certificate. Please note: participants must be 11 years old or have their birthday during the program and before the exam date.

Games Leader
Come learn how to run games for children in this fun and action packed workshop. Participants will learn a variety of age appropriate games for all age groups, creative ways to split children into teams, team building activities and much more. Ideal for babysitters, youth leaders, peer leadership students and coaches.
Crafts for Children
Learn how to run and create a variety of crafts for children. Participants will learn the process of planning and implementing age appropriate crafts for a variety of age groups. Ideal for babysitters, youth leaders, peer leadership students and coaches. Participants in this leadership workshop will be considered for volunteer and employment opportunities with Maple Ridge Parks & Leisure Services.
